How to Choose a Custom Range Hood for Your Kitchen
Choose your material, plan the size and find the right ventilation setup. This guide walks you through the decisions that shape your custom range hood and its final price.

A FOBEST product and ordering guide
Custom range hoods: the essentials.
A custom range hood is made to fit your kitchen’s dimensions and design. Its metal cover creates the appearance; a compatible liner or insert and blower handle ventilation. Confirm both parts of the order rather than assuming every cover includes the same ventilation package.
What can FOBEST customize?
Width, height, depth, shape, material, finish, straps, rivets, crown and apron details, subject to the design and insert requirements. Common listed widths include 30″, 36″, 42″, 48″, 54″ and 60″; ask about sizes beyond the listed options.
Plan your custom design →How much should you budget?
Model starting prices include FSS-113: From $2,469 USD, and FCP-35: From $2,599 USD. Your selected size, finish, details and ventilation package determine the final order price.
See price examples and inclusions →Can you use your own insert?
Yes, subject to compatibility. Send the exact model, spec sheet, cutout and installation requirements so FOBEST can review the cover dimensions before you approve the drawing.
Compare hood-only and blower options →What should you send first?
Your cooktop model and width, kitchen photo, available space, ceiling height, duct location, preferred design and delivery ZIP code. Add your deadline and insert specs if you have them.

Choose the metal for its look and care requirements; choose the insert, hood dimensions and ducting for ventilation performance. Stainless steel offers silver tones, copper adds warm reddish-brown color, brass brings gold tones, and zinc offers a muted gray look. Match the hood to your cabinetry and hardware, or use it as a contrasting focal point.

Custom Stainless Steel Range Hoods
A versatile choice for a clean, tailored look. Consider brushed steel to coordinate with appliances, a polished finish for reflection, or a colored finish to connect the hood with your cabinetry.
Design direction: Modern, transitional or mixed-metal kitchens.

Custom Copper Range Hoods
A warm focal point with natural variation. Smooth copper feels more understated, while hammered textures and antique finishes add visual depth. FOBEST’s copper hoods have a protective clear lacquer to help preserve the selected finish.
Design direction: Rustic, traditional or warm contemporary kitchens.

Custom Brass Range Hoods
Golden tones that work beautifully with warm wood, cream cabinets and brass hardware. Compare brushed, aged and polished looks to decide how much shine or contrast you want.
Design direction: A warm statement hood or coordinated metal accents.

Shown: Zinc with brass accents.
Custom Zinc Range Hoods
A softer gray-metal look with understated character. Natural and darker finishes offer an alternative to brighter silver or gold tones, especially when you want the hood to blend with the room.
Design direction: Muted, farmhouse or relaxed transitional kitchens.
Explore Zinc Hoods →See the finish in your own light. A sample helps you compare the hood finish with your hardware and countertop. Screen colors and room lighting can change how a finish looks. Browse finish samples.
Material and finish are different specifications. A brass-colored finish or brass accent does not mean the entire hood is solid brass. Confirm the base metal, finish and accent materials for your design. Photos show example configurations; compare a finish sample before choosing your own.
What can you customize on a FOBEST range hood?
Look at the lines in your kitchen. Box and sloped designs bring a simple, structured feel. Curved, arched and bell shapes add softness. Crown molding, straps, rivets and apron details can make a familiar shape feel more personal.

| Decision | What to specify |
|---|---|
| Dimensions | Overall width, depth and height; chimney height; cabinet opening and ceiling endpoint. |
| Mounting | Wall, island or under-cabinet placement; the visible sides and support arrangement. |
| Metal and finish | Base material, texture, color and accent materials. Use a sample or reference image to confirm the look. |
| Decorative details | Strap placement, rivets, trim, crown and apron profile. |
| Insert fit | Exact model, cutout, mounting points, duct connection and access requirements. |
Think about the whole room, too. A hood beside detailed cabinetry may work best with fewer accents. In a simpler kitchen, a contrasting trim or textured finish can give the cooking area more presence.

What size custom range hood do you need?
Your hood needs to fit both the cooking surface and the surrounding cabinetry. Share your range or cooktop model, available width, ceiling height and installation location so we can review the proportions with you.
Start with cooktop coverage, then check the cabinet opening. Your hood should generally be at least as wide as the cooking surface. A wider hood may improve capture when the layout allows. Use your cooktop and insert manuals to confirm width, depth and mounting clearance; hood width alone does not determine airflow.
Width
Start with the cooking-surface width and the range manufacturer’s hood recommendations. Extra width may help capture cooking fumes where the layout allows. Check the space between cabinets before selecting a wider design.
Depth
Review front-burner coverage, cabinet depth and head clearance. FOBEST’s published guides use 21–24 inches as a planning range for wall hoods and 27 inches for island hoods; confirm the depth for your selected model and kitchen.
Mounting clearance
Measure from the cooking surface to the bottom of the hood. The cooktop and hood insert installation instructions determine the permitted clearance. Confirm this with your installer before approving the drawing.
For an island installation, the hood is visible on all sides. Send details of the ceiling structure and duct route. For sloped ceilings, include photos and measurements of the slope.

The decorative hood cover gives your kitchen its look. The liner or insert houses the ventilation components. Choose the blower and venting arrangement alongside the hood dimensions, so everything fits together.

| Option | How it works | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Ducted / Internal Blower | The blower sits inside the hood insert and exhausts air outdoors through ductwork. | Insert dimensions, duct size, duct route and exterior termination. |
| Ducted / Remote Blower | A compatible blower is installed away from the hood, commonly in an attic or an approved remote location. | Approved blower location, compatible liner, duct size, wiring and service access. Follow the selected system’s installation instructions. |
| Ductless / Recirculating | Grease and charcoal filters treat the air before returning it to the kitchen. | A compatible insert and conversion kit, a clear air-return path and filter replacement needs. It does not exhaust cooking heat or moisture outdoors. |
| Hood Only / Your Own Insert | The custom cover is designed around a separately purchased insert. | The exact insert model, specification sheet, cutout dimensions and installation instructions before drawing approval. |
How much airflow do you need?
CFM measures how much air a blower moves. The right choice depends on your cooking equipment, cooking habits and duct system. FOBEST’s published internal-blower configurations include 600 CFM for 30″/36″ hoods, 1150 CFM for 42″/48″ hoods and 1260 CFM for 54″/60″ hoods. Availability varies by model and selection.
Share your cooktop specifications with us. Your installer should also confirm the ducting and any required make-up air before you finalize the blower.
Already have an insert in mind? Email its spec sheet to info@fobestappliance.com. We’ll review compatibility and the hood dimensions before production.
Before choosing a blower: confirm the exact insert model, rated CFM, required duct diameter and your planned duct route. Your local installer should check any make-up air requirements for your location. A higher CFM number does not correct an undersized or poorly routed duct.

Custom range hood FAQs
How much does a FOBEST custom range hood cost?
Listed examples include FSS-113: From $2,469 USD, and FCP-35: From $2,599 USD, checked October 9, 2026. The final price depends on your selected size, material, finish, details and ventilation package. Compare the price examples and check the linked product page before checkout.
What size hood should I choose for a 36-inch cooktop?
Start with a hood at least as wide as the cooking surface. A 42-inch hood may be an option if the cabinetry and equipment instructions allow extra width. Confirm capture depth, mounting clearance, insert requirements and the available opening before approving dimensions.
Can a custom range hood be ductless?
Yes, if the selected insert supports a compatible ductless conversion kit. A recirculating setup filters the air and returns it to the kitchen; it does not exhaust cooking heat and moisture outdoors. Confirm compatibility, the air-return path and filter maintenance before ordering.
Does a copper range hood develop a natural patina?
FOBEST’s copper hoods have a clear protective lacquer to help preserve the selected finish. They are not intended to develop the same natural patina as untreated copper. Follow the care instructions for the specific finish and avoid abrasive cleaning products.
Can FOBEST make a wall-mounted or island range hood?
Yes. FOBEST offers wall-mounted and island designs, as well as under-cabinet options. Confirm the mounting type before ordering because visible sides, support and duct routing differ. Shop wall hoods or shop island hoods.
How long does a made-to-order range hood take?
Timing depends on the design, drawing approval, production schedule and delivery location. Confirm the current production and shipping estimate for your order before scheduling installation. Share your deadline early so FOBEST can review the available options.
Can I order with a 50% deposit?
Yes. Email a screenshot of your cart to FOBEST to arrange a 50% deposit, with the balance due before shipment. The published policy states that the deposit is nonrefundable after receipt of the approved drawing. Review the payment policy.
Can I customize a design from your website?
Yes. Start with a listed design and select the available options. For a different size, finish or detail, send us the product link and your requirements so we can confirm the design and price.
Can I use my own blower insert?
Yes, subject to compatibility. Send the exact model, specification sheet, cutout, duct connection and installation requirements before drawing approval. FOBEST can review a hood-only design around those specifications; do not finalize the cover around an estimated insert size.
Will the product photo change when I select another finish?
Standard product photos may stay the same when you change an option. Your selected finish is confirmed through the order details and design review. On supported 3D custom hood pages, you can explore the available visual options before ordering.
Does FOBEST install the hood?
FOBEST does not provide on-site installation. Your contractor or local installer handles mounting, electrical connections and ductwork using the hood and insert installation instructions.
What warranty comes with a FOBEST range hood?
FOBEST lists a lifetime warranty for the metal hood cover, a 2-year limited warranty for the liner/insert and a 10-year limited warranty for the motor/blower. Coverage and exclusions apply. Review the published product warranty details.
Is standard shipping included?
Free standard shipping is available for most locations within the contiguous United States. Additional charges may apply for remote or limited-access locations and other destinations. See shipping and delivery details.
